Winston Surfshirt have just kicked off their latest Sponge Cake Tour in Sydney. On the weekend we saw the north shore boys hit the stage with label mates Polographia & Crooked Letter as they took over a SOLD OUT Metro Theatre. This was another massive indicator of how big these boys have gotten over the last year and how fast they’re still growing. It was only recently that they impressively sold out Oxford Art factory. Now they’ve not only sold out the Metro, but it looks like they’re going to do it twice, with a second show added on the 26th after this one sold out.
The night kicked things off with Crooked Letter, only new to live performances, he proved to be one to watch. Following that smooth hip-hop flow, we changed gears a little with Sydney outfit Polographia, the boys giving us a blend of infectious synthy party vibes that kept the crowd on their feet throughout the whole set. Now, of course, the time had come for the main men of the hour to make their way to the stage, the crowd eagerly awaiting their newfound local heroes. Winston Surfshirt take the stage and immediately hit things off with the crowd, like something out of a Star Wars movie we see a glowing saber appear from the darkness (Its actually the signature glowing neon microphone stand). We got an unexpected treat hearing them do a cover of Justin Timberlake’s ‘My Love’ and of course, there was no big surprise that ‘Be About You’ & ‘Ali D’ were huge crowd favorites.
